Drug addiction – aggressors and victims

The project focuses on introducing therapeutic models of endured violence and coping with one´s own aggression during the treatment of drug addiction in the Therapeutic community Karlov SANANIM and Němčice SANANIM. These activities will support the implementation of research study of the impact of violence on the emergence of drug addiction and the success of treatment. An important aspect of the project is to bring its results into the focus of professionals, therapeutic communities association and finally cover them at a conference.
 
The main objectives of the project:

  • The introduction of a program aimed at experienced violence and prevention of violent behavior during the treatment of people addicted to drugs - group and individual therapy, training of staff
  • Gathering relevant data on violence versus drug addiction and publicizing them - research, conferences, informing professionals

 

Target group
The target group consists of drug addicts/people threatened by drug addiction currently abstaining and in treatment in residential therapeutic communities Karlov and Němčice. Another target group is professionals - academics, professional provides of drug addiction treatment.

 

Innovativeness of the project
Innovativeness of the project is in its precise targeting on change/extending therapeutic activities and on gathering data that have not yet been mapped in detail from the perspective of endured violence and aggression of drug users in treatment. The aim is to enhance the therapeutic work in treatment of drug addiction. Furthermore, expanding obtained research data may be used as a basis for the introduction of effective changes in treatment (operation manual) and in prevention programs of drug addiction.

The Project is being supported by the Open Society Fund Prague from the Let's Give (Wo)men a Chance programme, financed from Norway Grants. With Norway Grants, Norway contributes towards a reduction in economic and social disparity and the strengthening of mutual cooperation in Europe. It promotes, above all else, environmental protection, research and scholarships, civil society development, health care, children, gender equality and an improvement in the efficiency of justice. The Let's Give Women a Chance programme promotes equal opportunities for women and men both in their work and personal lives as well as prevention and help for victims of domestic and gender-based violence in the Czech Republic. It is operated by the Open Society Fund Prague, which has been developing values of open society and democracy in the Czech Republic since 1992.
